My GSR class has made a brochure for Fobsd. Since they never had a brochure, our group has created one they can use now on. This brochure includes significant information for the people world wide to use and to see what they can do to help Buea School for the deaf. This brochure has included, how to donate, pictures, BSD's wish list, 501(c)(3) organizations, how to sponsor a child and history of Bsd. I hope this brochure will enlightened everyone and for them to consider donating money!

GSR 241.01 - SECOND BLOG

My second blog will talk about the children in crisis. In Iran, the children are learning how to shoot guns. “Shoot them when you see white people walking by”. As they became brainwashed, they don’t know why exactly they are shooting at. With money in crisis, so many people are so poor, and yet we cant help them all. Just a dollar for a day, $30 to give for a month, is not that expensive. “Over 18 million children in Central and Eastern Europe and former Soviet Union States live in crisis, 15 years after the fall of communism and introduction of market-led economies. Over ten years since the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, 35% of the population lives on less than a dollar a day.” Families are trapped with being so poor; mothers usually starve themselves just to feed their children. And the children have to live like that then they will have to starve for their children. Will that ever stop? What scares me the most about this article that some parents knows how to sell their children’s organs, sell sex trade, and child labor. Diseases are passed down to their children. Most family states, “We want out”. Their life is not a vacation; they starve and work hard all day.

As we are in Gallaudet University, our mission to make a difference in this world, whenever you are teaching ASL in a public high school or you own a business to art therapist. Each major is about making a change in this world. If you’re not sure what to major, think about what you wish to change, and that you can change.

So, if you look at many immigrants coming to America, and we often say they are taking over our lands. We all are from other countries. The only true Americans are Indians. How are we to say to kick them out when they want a better life for themselves and for their children? When we see other ethics moving to this country, we should greet and guide them to a better life. They could make a different in this world or your life. I thank my dad for moving this country. If it wasn’t for him, I would never exist in this world.

This will be my first blog where I will express my point of views to different occurrences around the world.
This blog will be talking about my new upcoming event that my group is hosting, Tom's shoes project. This project is an enriching experience yet frustrating. It’s because of how people will think of themselves and not helping others. As they say, “Next time we will help.” As if that will ever happen. Americans are used to think of themselves. So, maybe we shouldn’t blame them because they were raised that way? I think not. Everyone in my group has different backgrounds and they grew up with different ethics. So really, I am sure it is just the people. I have sent a lot of sponsor letters to the organizations of Gallaudet, and only one has sponsored us. This organization, they have the money. Plus, almost all organizations should be about making a difference? And, are they doing that? No. Tom's shoes is mostly in Ethiopia. A lot of children and even adults are affected with Podoconiosis. I've used that video to show people why they should donate money, and only a little are willing to sacrifice their money. What’s awesome about donating that $44 dollars is that the money (The money is due on November 16) is the price of two shoes. One pair will be sent to the other country for a certain person with Podoconiosis and one pair will be sent to you. The canvas shoes are up to us to design ourselves which will be on December 2nd and 3rd. Or, you can buy a pair of shoes that has colors already. This is a project that can make you feel good about yourselves and you all can go to sleep knowing that you just made a difference! This project might be a success but not a lot of shoes are ordered. During the second semester, this project will be hosted again! From this experience and my mistakes that I made, I will learn from it and hope for the better next semester. And, hopefully, it’ll be more effective project next semester! -Emilia
